Explanation:

One of the first things you should do is add the -5 from the left side to the right side which means you add positive 5 to the 3 making it 8.

Then knowing that you have 8 you should divide 2 from the left side and also do it on the right making the answer on the right go down to 4.

Now you have an equation that says a-5=4

Now you add the add 5 to the left cancelling the -5 from the left side. Now you need to add the 5 to the right side making the answer on that side 9. Now you are left with the original equation saying a=9

Now to fact check it by adding the 9 to the original equation....

2(9-5)-5-3

To solve this we should use PEMDAS so we start with the parentheses...

2(4)-5=3

Now we do not have any exponents, so we will move onto the multiplication for the equation...

8-5=3

This is really simple now but we will now skip the dividing and adding as we do not have anything in that section. So we will move on to the last step of PEMDAS which is subtraction...

3=3

Now that we have completed PEMDAS and the answers match up we have completed the problem and the answer is correct.
