Answer:

48.5cm²

Explanation:

The figure is can be divided into 3 parts:

The square, The rectangle and The triangle

We will be finding the area of each shape.

The square: Area = length * length

Length of square = 3. Area = 3 cm * 3 cm = 9 cm²

The rectangle: Area = length * breadth

Length = 8 cm; Breadth = 4 cm. Area = 8 cm * 4 cm = 32 cm²

The triangle: Area = 0.5 * height * base

Height = 5 cm; Base = 3 cm. Area = 0.5 * 5 * 3 = 7.5 cm²

Base is the shorter side of the triangle that is not the diagonal side (hypotenuse). It is gotten by subtracting the given length of the bottom part of the figure which is 4 cm from the top part of the figure which is 7 cm and it is also the other side of the square that is not given.

Height is the longer side of the triangle that is not the hypotenuse.

It is gotten by subtracting the given length of the right side which is 3 cm from the given length of the left side of the figure which is 8 cm.

Base and height can be used interchangeably.

Adding all the areas together: 9 + 32 + 7.5 = 48.5 cm²
