A contractor bought 7.6ft to the power of 2 of sheet metal. She has used 3.5ft to the power of 2 so far and has 73.80 dollars worth of sheet metal remaining. The equation 7.6x - 3.5x =73.8 represents how much sheet metal is remaining and the cost of the remaining amount. How much does sheet metal cost per square foot?

Answer:

$18 per ft²

Explanation:

x = cost of 1 squared foot of sheet metal

Just do some subtraction

7.6x - 3.5x = 73.8

4.1x = 73.8

Divide both sides by 4.1

4.1x/4.1 = 73.8/4.1

x = 18
