In the morning, Maria drove to a business appointment at 70 mph. Her average speed on the return trip in the afternoon was 60 mph. The

return trip took hr longer because of heavy traffic. How far did she travel to the appointment?

Let the time taken to travel to the business appointment in the morning be t.

The time taken to return from the business appointment would be (t + 1/3).
Distance travelled = Speed * time taken

70t = 60 ( t + 1/3)

70t = 60t + 20

10t = 20 t = 20 / 10 = 2

Distance travelled by Maria to the appointment = 70 * 2 = 140 miles
