Part A

1 hour + 30 min = 1.5 hours

distance = rate*time

distance = (65 mph)*(1.5 hrs)

distance = 97.5 miles

(mpg rating)*(number of gallons) = distance traveled

(24 mpg)*(x gallons) = 97.5 miles

24x = 97.5

x = (97.5)/(24)

x = 4.0625

Answer: 4.0625 gallons

Part B

1 gallon = 3.89 dollars

4.0625*(1 gallon) = 4.0625*(3.89 dollars)

4.0625 gallons = 15.803125 = 15.80 dollars

Answer: $15.80

Part C

1/4 = 0.25

1/4 of 18 = 0.25*18 = 4.5

She currently has 4.5 gallons of gas in her tank

She needs 18-4.5 = 13.5 gallons if she wants to completely fill the tank.

1 gallon = 3.89 dollars

13.5*(1 gallon) = 13.5*(3.89 dollars)

13.5 gallons = 52.515 = 52.52 dollars

Answer: $52.52
