Hi !!

Which French pronoun would you use to replace the underlined subjects?

Everyone is helping to plan a surprise party for Guillaume.

1. Valérie and Amélie are blowing up balloons.

These to subject are both feminine so ==> elles

Tout le monde participe à l'organisation d'une fête surprise pour Guillaume.

Elles (Valérie et Anne) gonflent des ballons.

If the to subjects were masculine (Tom et Paul ) ==> Ils

if the to subjects were one feminine + one masculine = Ils as well

But if one subject was feminine , plus the other one masculine, it would be "Ils". The French rule in gramar says "masculine takes over feminine...

hope that's helps :)
