An automobile passes a point pp at a speed of 77 mph. at pp it begins to decelerate at a rate proportional to time. if after 5.0 sec the car has slowed to 53 mph, what distance has it traveled in ft?

a is proportional to time = at ( I assume DIRECTLY proportional to time)

= vo + (at)t

53 = 77 + at^2

-24 = a ( 25)

a = - .96

df = do + vo t + 1/2 a t^2

= 0 + 77(5) + 1/2 ( -.96) (25) = 373 ft
