Answer: 5 games

===========================================================

Step-by-step explanation:

x = number of games

y = total cost

Server A charges a flat $25 fee on top of $7 per game. The equation here is y = 7x+25

Server B doesn't charge a flat fee. They charge $12 per game to give the equation y = 12x

This is our system of equations

\begin{cases}\text{y} = 7\text{x}+25\\\text{y}=12\text{x}\end{cases}

Apply substitution and solve for x.

y = 12x

7x+25 = 12x

25 = 12x-7x

25 = 5x

5x = 25

x = 25/5

x = 5

The two servers will charge the same amount when you buy 5 games.

-----------

Check:

  • server A = 7x+25 = 7*5+25 = 35+25 = 60 dollars
  • server B = 12x = 12*5 = 60 dollars

Both servers charge a total of $60 when buying 5 games. The answer has been confirmed.
