Why was the Bill of Rights added to the Constitution?

It was added to protect the rights of those who feared of a strong national government. Anti-Federalists thought that without a bill of rights, the government could easily ignore their rights unless it was written out for everyone to see. The Bill of Rights protected basic rights such as freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition.
