We have: 4x + 12 - x = -15

<=> 4x - x = -15 - 12

<=> 3x = - 27

<=> x = -27/3 = -9

Answer: x = -9

Simplifying

4x + 12 + -1x = -15

Reorder the terms:

12 + 4x + -1x = -15

Combine like terms: 4x + -1x = 3x

12 + 3x = -15

Solving

12 + 3x = -15

Solving for the variable 'x'.

Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right.

Add '-12' to each side of the equation.

12 + -12 + 3x = -15 + -12

Combine like terms: 12 + -12 = 0

0 + 3x = -15 + -12

3x = -15 + -12

Combine like terms: -15 + -12 = -27

3x = -27

Divide each side by '3'.

x = -9

Simplifying

x = -9
