Combining like terms 8d - 4 - d - 2

Hi :)

The way we'll simplify this is we'll combine the like terms, which are the d's and the constant terms:

8d-4-d-2

A great way is to write the d's together and the constant terms together:

8d-d-4-2

Now combine:

7d-6

7d-6 because adding both negatives together gives you -6, and the -d gets subtracted from 8d
