Sidney has two different acid solutions: A is a 50% acid solution, and B is

an 80% acid solution. Determine how much of each solution he needs to
create 200 ml of a 68% solution.

Answer:

80 ml of 50% solution

120 ml of 80% solution

Explanation:

x is the amount of the 50% solution, y of the 80% solution

x + y = 200 --------> y = 200 - x

(x × 0.5 + y × 0.8)/200 = 0.68

[x × 0.5 + (200 - x) × 0.8] / 200= 0.68

[x × 0.5 + 160 - x × 0.8] / 200 = 0.68 × 200

-0.3 × x + 160 = 136

-0.3 × x = -24

x = 24 / 0.3 = 80

y = 200 - x = 120
