when reading the fahrenheit side, each tiny dash represents one degree fahrenheit. when reading the Celsius side, each dash also represents one degree celsius. we can use the big lines that give us an exact value to help us determine the temperature. the temperature is 8 tick marks above the 100 line, so the temperature is 108 degrees fahrenheit. the temperature is 2 tick marks above 40, so the temperature is 42 degrees celsius. if you were to use a converter, 42 degrees Celsius is roughly 108 degrees fahrenheit so this makes sense
