Answer:

y= 1/3 - 1

Explanation:

You can see that it takes 3 vertical boxes or units to get one unit on the x axis therefore it is 1/3 slope. Because it starts at -1 instead of the origin, it has a -1 behind it.

Answer:

4

Explanation:

The rate of change, is essentially the slope.

The slope can be defined as:
(rise)/(run)

It can also be calculated with the formula:
(y_1-y_2)/(x_1-x_2), which is essentially the same thing, except the y_1-y_2 is calculating the rise, and the x_1-x_2 is calculating the run.

So let's take two points: (0, -1) and (1, 3)

We can plug in the values:
(3-(-1))/(1-0)\implies (3+1)/(1)\implies 4

So the rate of change is 4, and you don't really need the formula here, all you have to see is that as "x" increases by 1, the y is increasing by 4, which is the very definition of the slope/rate of change. It's measuring how much the y is changing as x increases by 1.
