Solve x² + 4x = 4 for x by completing the square.
Ox= -4
Ox=0
Ox=± √8+2
Ox=± √8-2

√(8) - 2

Explanation:

x² + 4x = 4

to complete the square

add ( half the coefficient of the x- term )² to both sides

x² + 2(2)x + 4 = 4 + 4

(x + 2)² = 8 ( take square root of both sides )

x + 2 = ±
√(8) ( subtract 2 from both sides )

x = ±
√(8) - 2
