Peer Review Discussion: Memoir 30 points

Step 1: Please be sure that your revised draft is 2-3 double-spaced pages long. When you are ready for peer review, open the Peer Review Discussion, and attach your memoir to your post. In the comment section, let readers know what specifically you would like them to help you with. For example, you may not feel comfortable with dialogue. In that case, you might ask your readers to pay special attention to your dialogue. Does it sound real? Is it effective?

Step 2: Everyone should receive at least two feedback responses. Respond to other writers as soon as possible. They will be waiting for your response. To make this work, please choose two students who have not had two responses (unless all students available already have two responses; in that case you can be the third or fourth responder). Before reading the memoirs, check the students’ comments. What do they want you to look for? Then read the posted memoirs very carefully—maybe more than once. Pay attention to what the writer does well as well as what the writer could work on. Your response to the writer should include all parts of the following Peer Review Guidelines:

I really like (be specific) ... because …
The main meaning I get from your memoir is ….
You show strengths in … (this could include any of the writing traits, the elements of memoir, or other aspects of writing that we have studied)
An example of where you show this strength is ...
Questions I had when I read your memoir are …
I think you could work on these two main things … (this could include any of the writing traits, the elements of memoir, or other aspects of writing that we have studied)
Three specific suggestions I have are …
The more specific you are with your comments and your suggestions, the more helpful you will be to the writer. And the more positive you are about the writer’s strengths, the more able the writer will be to accept your constructive suggestions. Remember, your job here is to help this writer grow and become a stronger writer!

Step 3: After you receive feedback, read it carefully. If there is anything in the feedback you don’t understand, respond and clarify it. Ask your reviewer clarifying questions. Sometimes this follow-up discussion can offer more than the original feedback did.

Answer:Choose a period of your life to write about. ...

Set a decent amount of time aside to do the writing. ...

Let go of having to write deathless prose on your first draft. ...

Gather your support material prior to the start of the month. ...

Follow the day-to-day suggestions listed below.

Explanation: A theme: When writing a book of your life experiences, it's tempting to try to write every interesting personal story that has occurred in your life. However, memoir writing should focus on a specific theme or lesson, and every compelling story included in a good memoir should support that theme.

One day I woke up with a pain in my eyelid and a certain redness. The pain continued for many days and my eyelid started to swell. I knew I needed to go to the doctor to see what was going on before I took a bigger proportion, but I was negligent and I was afraid and I let time go by and my eyelid got bigger and bigger to the point where I couldn't open my eye.

In this situation, I could no longer avoid going to the doctor and when I went I knew it was a cyst and that it could have been easily resolved with the use of ointments, however, the way it was now only surgery would solve it. I was very sad and disappointed in myself because I allowed things to get to that point, but I scheduled the surgery and attended the office on the appointed day.

The surgery was quick and my recovery too, but I learned that we must not let our fear dominate us, especially when something related to our body and our health is not going well, we can cause unpleasant situations if we are not courageous and take the initiative of related things ourselves.
