Given Arithmetic Sequence -

  • 6, 2, x, -6, -10

To Find -

  • Third term,x

Solution -

☯︎ Let us find common difference,d by subtracting first term from second .i e.,
a_2-a_1 ,where
a_1 and
a_2 are first and second term .

common difference,d= 2-6 = -4

General term of Arithmetic Sequence,

\boxed{a_n = a+(n-1)d}

where,

  • a_n = nth term
  • a = first term
  • n = number of term
  • d = common difference

So,

❄︎
a_3 = a+(3-1)d

➪x = 6 + 2 × (-4)

➪x = 6 +(-8)

➪x = 6-8

➪x = -2
