Parents and friends generally play a role in shaping the behavior and beliefs of an individual—through parent expectations or peer pressure. Therefore, the people who tend to become the greatest influencers in our lives tend to be those closest to us—our friends and family.

Family dynamics can especially influence gender specialization. Parents of sons are more likely to express conservative gender role views than parents of daughters, with fathers emphasizing the paternal breadwinning role for males. ... Thus, household dynamics further advance gender role expectations on children.

I think family and peers expect more from women. As a girl, growing up, I was told not to do certain things a boy did because I should act like a lady. Because my brother dropped from school, my family expects me to graduate and go to college to get a high paying job. I feel like it’s unfair since I’m younger and I get all the pressure of trying to be the successful one in the family.
