After the Boston Tea Party in 1773, the British government punished the entire colony of Massachusetts. Trade
was outlawed until the colony of Massachusetts paid for the tea that was tossed into the sea. All local
representatives were replaced by men handpicked by the King. The other twelve colonies realized that their
rights could instantly be canceled, and they decided to send representatives to a meeting called a "Congress"
