Answer:

$9

Explanation:

let a represent the cost of an adult ticket and c the cost of a childs , then

6a + c = 59 → (1)

14a + 7c = 161 → (2)

multiplying (1) by - 7 and adding to (2) will eliminate c

- 42a - 7c = - 413 → (3)

add (2) and (3) term by term to eliminate c

- 28a + 0 = - 252

- 28a = - 252 ( divide both sides by - 28 )

a = 9

the cost of an adult ticket is $9

Answer:

$9

Explanation:

Child tickets cost less than adult tickets. Thus, it can’t be $5 because the child’s ticket would be equivalent to $29.

Since you already know the total cost for the tickets, the price can’t be any higher than $59. Thus, you can eliminate both $11 and $12.

Therefore, you’re left with $9.
