Answer:

Unlike normal cells, cancer cells do not respond to normal controls on growth and division. A cure includes a way to both prevent cancer cells from dividing uncontrollably, but allowing normal cells to divide. Finding a way to stop the cycle in some cells but not interfere with the cell cycle in others had made it difficult to cure cancer.
