The literature written after the American Revolutionary War owed a debt to the works written before it. People still talk about political and social issues of today by making direct literary and conceptual references to works from that time.

The ideals of the American Revolution, such as liberty and independence, have been passed down through the centuries and are universally embraced because of how they were taught. Even during the time of the American Revolution, when many people were hoping for freedom from slavery, many people really got it. Still, the same logical concepts can be found in every piece of political writing. When individuals saw their political beliefs and goals realized, they were able to turn their attention to other areas.
