loga + logb = log(ab)

loga = logb , then a = b

given

log(5y - 4) = log(y + 1) + log4

log(5y - 4) = log4(y + 1) , then

5y - 4 = 4(y + 1) = 4y + 4 ( subtract 4y from both sides )

y - 4 = 4 ( add 4 to both sides )

y = 8
