Answer is 8.5 m.
Step by step.
I like to break down figures like these into smaller figures as shown in the attachment.
We know that area (A) = Length x Width.
Figure 1 : 3.5 x 1 = 3.5m
Figure 2 : 2.5 x 1.2 = 3m
Figure 3 : 1 x 2 = 2m
Add the 3 figures together you get 8.5m
