We hiccup for many different reasons. The main reason is when our diaphragm is irritated. Whether this is caused by a carbonated drink, eating too quickly, or something else, we hiccup when our diaphragm sucks in bursts of air quickly.
There are many different "ways" of how to stop hiccups from holding your breath to drinking cold water. There is no proven method to stop hiccups, you just have to wait them out. If they last longer than 2 days you should visit a doctor as something else may be wrong.
