I need help with answering question 16 on spring board algebra 2 pg. 35 the questions says solve the system using substitution the equation is : {4y + 19 = x and below that is 3y-x=4 I just need to be shown how to do it

So to use substitution you "plug in" the expression into each other. Here is what to do for 16!

[] First, we need to find which expression can be plugged in. The first one works! It is set equal to x, so we can easily plug it in.

[] Now, we need to set up our equation!

3y - x = -13

4y + 19 = x

3y - 4y + 19 = -13

[] Now, we solve for y and simplfy!

3y - 4y + 19 = -13

-y = -32

(I subtracted 19 for both sides and combined the y's)

Now I am going to add -y and -32 to both sides so I can have it be positive.

y = 32

[] Last, but not least, we solve for x!

- Plug the y you just solved into the equation for x

4y + 19 = x

4(32) + 19 = x

128 + 19 = x

147 = x
