Questions 36-40 are based on the following passage:

Is it possible to induce mankind toile without war? War is an ancient institution, which has existed for at least six thousand years. It was always wicked and usually foolish, but in the past the human race managed to lie with it. Modern ingenuity has changed this. Either man will abolish war or war will abolish man. For the present, it is nuclear weapons that cause the gravest danger, but bacteriological or chemical weapons may, before long, offer an even greater threat. Even if we secure the abolition of nuclear weapons, our work will not be done. It will never be done until we have secured the abolition of war. To secure this, we need to persuade mankind to look upon international questions in a new way, not as contests of force, in which the victory goes to the side which is most skillful in massacre, but by arbitration in accordance with agreed principles of law. It is not easy to change age-log mental habits, but this is what must be attempted.

Answer:

36. A

37. B

38. C

39. The answer choices dont line up with the question ( can't answer )

40. D

Step-by-step explanation:

36. The passage is most likely talking about how war should be abolished and that it must be abolished before it can cause any further damage to our existence (most likely A)

37. The passage states "at least 6,000 years" so that would mean 6,000 years or more. (B. More than six thousand years)

38. The passage says that bacteriological or chemical weapons can offer an "even greater threat" meaning that they can be more harmful than nuclear weapons. (C. can be more harmful than nuclear weapons)

39. The answer choices for this one are exactly the same as #38 so I believe that may be an accident and its unable to be answered

40. The very end of the passage states that we need to change our age old mental habits and says "this is what must be attempted." (D. change our age old mental habits and to arbitrate in a a accordance with agreed principles)

What's odd about this is that if you put the answers together ( with the exception of 39) you get ABCD but I still believe that these are the correct answers
