A 12m pole is buried 3.5m below the ground. What fraction of the pole is above the ground?​

8.5/12 m

Explanation:

1. calculate the metres above the ground

  • total metres - metres below the ground = metres above the ground.
  • 12 m - 3.5 m = 8.5 m

2. therefore, 8.5 out of the total 12 metres are above ground

  • 8.5/12 can't be simplified any further so....
  • answer: 8.5/12 m
