Persuasive/Argument: Thanks to advances in technology, a manned mission to Mars in the next 50 years is increasingly likely. However, such a mission would come with a massive price tag and a great deal of risk for those who undertake the journey to the red planet. Is putting a person on Mars a worthwhile goal to pursue? Why or why not?

Mars is a valuable place for exploration because it can be reached in 7 months, is a major opportunity for scientific exploration, and has been mapped and studied for several decades. The mission represents the first step in a long-term effort to bring Martian samples back to Earth, where they can be analyzed for residues of microbial life. Beyond the study of life itself, there are a plethora different benefits of Mars exploration.
