Explanation:

x because if you multiply the first equation by 2 and add the result to equation 2 , the y's will cancel out.

2x + y = 9 Times 2:-

4x + 2y = 18

3x - 2y = 17 Adding:-

7x = 35

x = 5.

Answer:

In my opinion, it would be 'y', since it is already on its own (in the first equation) without any coefficients.
