Explanation:

3x - y = 7 → (1)

2x + 3y -= 1 → (2)

multiplying ( 1) by 3 and adding to (2) will eliminate y

9x - 3y = 21 → (30

add (2) and (3) to eliminate y

11x = 22 (divide both sides by 2 )

x = 2

substitute x = 2 into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

substituting into (2)

2(2) + 3y = 1

4 + 3y = 1 (subtract 4 from both sides )

3y = - 3 ( divide both sides by 3 )

y = - 1

solution = (2, - 1 )
