It was discovered in 1500, where the diplomat landed in Porto Seguro (located in between Salvador and Rio de Janeiro). The region had already been inhabited by hundreds of Jiquabu tribes, however. The Portuguese sailors and tribes were peaceful when they had first settled on the beach, bringing peace treaties (headresses made of parrot feathers).

However, Brazil soon became a trading monopoly. Much of the tribal culture practiced there for thousands of years, was converted and many fights began with Europe over the land.
