For a moving object, the force acting on the object varies directly with the object's acceleration. When a force of 12 N acts on a certain object, the acceleration

of the object is 3 m/s
If the force is changed to 16 N, what will be the acceleration of the object?

Answer:

Force acting on the object varies directly with the objects acceleration:

F∝a

F=ka (Let's call this equation 1)

When F=12 and a =3

Substituting this info into the equation 1;

12=k×3

12=3k

k=4

Substituting k into equation 1

F=4xa

F=4a (Let's call this equation 2)

When F=16

Substituting F=16 into equation 2

16=4a

a=4 m/s^2

Therefore, if the force is changed to 16 N, the acceleration will be 4m/s^2.
