Answer:

x = -10 , y = -45

Explanation:

y + 4x = -5 ------------- (i)

2y = -8x - 20 ---------- (ii)

y + 4x = -5 --------(iii) × -2

2y + 8x = -20 -----(iv) × +1

-2y - 8x = + 10

2y + 8x = -20

x = -10

substitute x = -10 into equation (i)

y + 4x = -5

y + 4 (-10) = -5

y + 40 = -5

y = -5 - 40

y = -45
