Read the passage from a rhetorical text.

What kind of job do you hope to have? In recent years, society has gone through a dramatic shift in the way people work. Many are now employed in the so-called "gig economy.” In a gig economy, workers are not permanently employed by companies. Instead, people work independently on a freelance basis or by taking on short-term contracts. This provides workers with greater freedom to choose when and how they work, but it has a downside. This setup allows companies to avoid providing a living wage and paying benefits such as health insurance and paid time off. In short, the gig economy is an abusive system in which workers must forever be hustling for that next buck since they can never depend upon stable employment.

Which statement provides the best counterargument to the writer’s thesis?
A. Typically, gig companies treat workers as contractors and pay a flat rate “per piece,” such as per ride or per delivery.
B. Many gig companies promote the flexibility such work allows as well as the ability for workers to “be their own boss.”
C. Often, gig companies provide an app-based technology platform to connect customers to gig workers.
D. Some gig companies may be required to provide more benefits if proposed regulation is passed.
