First find the area of the rectangle surrounding the cylinder.

Since the base diameter is 6 feet, the circumference
=\pi d=6\pi.

Since the height is 8 feet, the area of the rectangle is
6\pi*8 or
48\pi

Now the area of the base circle
=\pi r^2 = \pi*(1)/(4)d^2=9\pi

There are 2 base circles, so
9\pi*2=18\pi

Surface area =
18\pi+48\pi=66\pi ft²
