Explanation:

Using Pythagoras' identity in the right triangle.

The square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares on the other 2 sides, that is

?² + 7² = 10.5²

?² + 49 = 110.25 ( subtract 49 from both sides )

?² = 61.25 ( take the square root of both sides )

√(61.25) ≈ 7.8 cm ( to 1 dec. place )

Then

P = 10.5 + 7 + 7.8 = 25.3 cm
