Your question states that said person is writings a argumentative essay, and once we know that peace of information, and we review all the answers, D is the only answer which states counterclaims. The argumentative essay is a genre of writing that requires the student to investigate a topic; collect, generate, and evaluate evidence; and establish a position on the topic in a concise manner. An effective argumentative essay addresses what the other side might say and explains why that point of view is wrong. This is called the counterclaim. Thus, D in my opinion is the only correct option for stating counterclaims unlike the others.
