Women faced challenges in overcoming cultural stereotypes against working women, as well as finding adequate childcare during working hours. Minority women also endured discrimination and dislocation during the war years. 350,000 women served in the armed forces during World War II.

After WW2, women struggled with stereotypes against the women that had begun to work. It had always been that men did the working, and women working went against that culture. They also struggled with their wages, being paid less than men. Finding child care during working hours is another struggle they faced and had to overcome. Women had always been expected to marry and have children and to stay at home with their children previously.
