Sal is wrapping a gift box with the dimensions 8 in x 3 in x 2 in. He has a sheet of 8 in x 10 in wrapping

paper. Does he have enough to wrap the package?

The surface area of a rectangular prism is

A=2(xy+xz+yz) where x,y,z are its dimensions, for this case

A=2(8(3)+8(2)+3(2))

A=2(24+16+6)

A=2(46)

A=92in^2

Since the sheet is 8in by 10in its area is 8(10)=80in^2

80<92 so there is not enough paper to wrap the package.
