well the cost of an orange is $1 (as stated) and the cost of an apple is $0.5 or 50 cents
this is because 18 apples + 2 oranges = $11
the question says each orange is $1, therefore 2 oranges are $2
$11-$2= $9
the 9$ which is remaining is spent on the 18 apples... each apple should be at equal price ..
meaning you just go $9 divided by 18= 0.5
0.5 is 50 cents
that is just a solution to the price of the apples and oranges, i’m not sure if that ‘defines the variables’ tho?? you could call apples the x value and do
x + 2 = 11
take 2 on both sides
x= 11-2
x=9
9 is the total amount spent on apples but
9/18= 0.5
since 18 is the total number of apples bought !
i don’t know if this is correct.. please check the answers to confirm my solution :) good luck!
btw it’s 18 apples
because a dozen = 12
+ Jeremy’s 6 apples:
12+6= 18!!!
