(1)Using your answer from above, (170 hives) how much did the almond grower pay for renting the bees when it was $40 per hive? How much did he have to spend when the price increased to $60 per hive?

(2). If there are 40,000 bees in a hive and there is a 90% loss, how many bees died? How many are left to pollinate the plants?

Answer:

1) At $40 per hive, the almond grower spent $6,800

At $60 per hive, the almond grower spent $10,200

2) 36,000 bees died, 4,000 lived to pollinate.

Explanation:

1) 170x40= 6,800

170x60=10,200

2) 10% of 40,000 is 4,000

40,000-4,000=36,000

90%=36,000 10%=4,000
