I don’t understand standard deviation and outliers

Explanation:

Standard Deviation is a measure of how spread out the numbers are in a data set. It's formula is square root of variance. To calculate variance:

  • Work out the mean of the data set
  • for each number, subtract the mean from it and square the result
  • Work out the average of those squared numbers

Outliers are the number(s) in a data set that significantly contrast from the other data points. For example, in the data set: 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, the outlier is 10 because it's such a big jump compared to the other numbers.
