The Battle of Antietam was a success for the Union, for it was one of the first major victories by the Union, in a time when it had strings of defeats. They also were able to completely route and almost disintegrate the Confederate Army. However, this was the very reason that it was a failure. The Union failed to push and completely obliterate the Confederates, which led to them being able to regroup and continue the war.
