x^2 +x -2

p(x)=x^2+2x-5

q(x)=x-3

p(x) - q(x)=x^2+2x-5 - ( x-3)

Distribute the minus sign

= x^2+2x-5 - x+3

=x^2+2x-x-5+3

=x^2 +x -2
