Answer:

290 children and 151 adults

Explanation:

Given data

let the number of children be x

and the number of adults be y

total number of people= 442

x+y= 442---------1

The daily prices are $1.75 for children and $2.00 for adults. The receipts for admission totaled $811.25

1.75x+2y= 811.25--------2

solve 1 and 2

x+y= 442

1.75x+2y= 811.25

from 1, x= 442-y

put this in 2

1.75(442-y)+2y= 811.25

773.5-1.75y+2y=811.25

collect like terms

773.5+0.25y=811.25

0.25y= 811.25-773.5

0.25y= 37.75

y= 37.75/0.25

y= 151

put y= 151 in 1

x+151= 442

x= 442-152

x= 290

Hence there were 290 children and 151 adults
