No doubt you have seen "log" followed by a small font, low (subscript) number or letter, followed by a regular-size font number or letter. This is set equal to another number or letter. Your problem doesn't have that subscript (small font, low on the line) When this is not written, it is understood to be a 10. So your problem, rearranged to look like an exponent is:

10^3 = x

10 to the 3rd power is 10×10×10 which is

1000.
