There should be mutual respect between parents and children. One should not hold more respect or power over the over. The child should respect what the parent asks of them such as, doing the dishes or cleaning their room. In turn the parent should respect what the child is comfortable with and what they prefer such as the clothes they like to wear the people they hang out with. Each person should respect the other’s decisions as long as the person is not in danger.
I believe that the relationship of respect between parents and children 50 years ago is extremely different compared to the respect seen today. Today some children have absolutely no respect for their parents, they do not complete they chores, they yell at the parents, some even call their parents by their first names. 50 years ago most children would never think about doing things like that, if their parents asked them to do something most likely they did it, they did not raise they voice at their parents, they would call their parents ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ or some other form. The respect that children show their parents and vice versa is a very important but not a parent/child relationships work in ways that you would expect.
