This is not a question, this is for who-ever needs it.
Order of Operations
Remember the order of operations starts with the parentheses and moves down the list.
1. Parentheses
2. Exponents
3. Multiplication/Division
4. Addition/Subtraction
Example 1
Evaluate the expression 62 + 35 ÷ 3.
Steps to Simplify
Calculations
The first step to evaluating this expression would be to simplify the exponents.
36 + 243 ÷ 3
62 = 6 × 6 = 36
and
35 = 3 × 3 × 3 × 3 × 3 = 243
The next step is to evaluate any multiplication and/or division from left to right.
36 + 81
243 ÷ 3 = 81
Last, complete any addition and/or subtraction from left to right.
117
36 + 81 = 117
Therefore, 62 + 35 ÷ 3 = 117.
Example 2
Evaluate the expression 5 × (2/3)3 + 70 − (2×4)2.
Steps to Simplify
Calculations
The first step would be to simplify the expression in the parentheses.
5 × (2/3)3 + 70 − 82
2 × 4 = 8
Now you simplify the exponents.
5 × 8/27 + 70 − 64
(2/3)3 = 2/3 × 2/3 × 2/3 = 8/27
82 = 8 × 8 = 64
Next, complete all multiplication and/or division from left to right.
1 13/27 + 70 − 64
5/1 × 8/27 = 40/27 = 1 13/27
Last, complete all addition and/or subtraction from left to right.
71 13/27 − 64
7 13/27
1 13/27 + 70 = 71 13/27
71 13/27 − 64 = 7 13/27
