Emma decided to make more baked goods for her neighbors. She used 1/10 lb. Less sugar to make cake than to make apple dumplings. She used 3/10 lb. More sugar to make apple dumplings than to make apple crisp. If she used 5/10 lb. Of sugar to make the cake, how much sugar did she use to make the apple crisp? Explain your answer using numbers or words.

equation 1 and 2 can be derived from the question

cake = apple dumplings - 1/10 eqn 1

apple dumplings = 3/10 + crisp eqn 2

if 5/10 sugar was used to make cake , substitute for it in eqn 1

5/10 = apple dumplings - 1/10

apple dumplings = 5/10 + 1/10 = 6/10

Substitute for the amount of sugar used to make apple dumplings in eqn 2

6/10 = 3/10 + crisp

crisp = 6/10 - 3/10 = 3/10

cake - 1/10 = apple d
